Lectors

What does it mean to serve as a Lector? Those who proclaim God's word in the liturgy are known as Lectors.  Answering the call to become a lector enters one into a deeper relationship with God as He is revealed in sacred scripture. Lectors receive training that prepares them for the call to this ministry.                                                      

What must I do to become a lector?  

You must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation, be a Catholic in good standing, and a registered member of the parish

What are the responsibilities of a lector?

1. You must prepare your readings by rereading them using the Lector Workbook, and reading the surrounded text so as to better understand the assigned reading.This will take at least one hour during the week prior to your reading assignment                             

 2. Proclaim the Word of God at the Masses you are scheduled for. You will have to read the General Intercessions when a deacon is not present.                                    

 3. Continuously improve speaking and presentation skills.

What amount of time must I commit to the ministry?

At least one hour throughout the week prior to your assigned Mass to read and reread the assigned passage in the Lector Workbook, and read the surrounded text so as to better understand the assigned reading. To be a lector is a commitment of service.

¿Qué significa servir como lector?

Los que proclaman la Palabra de Dios en la liturgia son conocidos como lectores. Respondiendo al llamado a convertirse en un lector lo entra a uno a una relación más profunda con Dios como se revela en la Sagrada Escritura. Lectores reciben formación que los prepara para el llamado a este ministerio.

¿Qué debo hacer para ser un lector?

Usted debe haber recibido el Sacramento de la Confirmación, ser católico en buen estado, y un miembro registrado de la parroquia

¿Cuáles son las responsabilidades de un lector?

1. Debe preparar sus lecturas, leyéndolas en el libro de Lector, y leyendo el texto acompañante con el fin de comprender mejor la lectura asignada. Esto le llevará por lo menos una hora durante la semana antes de su lectura.

2. Proclamar la Palabra de Dios en las Misas en las cuales esta programada. Usted tendrá que leer las Intenciones Generales.

3. Mejorar continuamente su expresión oral y habilidades de presentación.

¿Qué cantidad de tiempo debo comprometer con el ministerio?

Al menos una hora durante la semana antes de su Misa asignada para leer y releer el pasaje asignado en el libro de Lector, y leer el texto acompañante con el fin de comprender mejor la lectura asignada. Ser un lector es un compromiso de servicio.
